2 Productive Ways of Charity

Being Muslims, we know that Zakat (charity) is the third pillar of Islam. Of all other pillars, this one is a teaching in itself. As Islam is the religion of peace and equality it is our moral responsibility to be charitable for those who are less fortunate. The existence of unlimited starving and poor people is an enough reason to put this religious concept into practice. Giving charity does not only fulfill the needs of poor people but is also the cause of peace for affluent Muslims. If Allah Almighty has made you capable of giving charity then you should also involve your family in this divine cause. You must instill a sense of compassion in your children from their early age. You can do this by following unique ideas and there are two productive ways of charity in Islam.

  1. Sponsor an Orphan

Sponsoring and orphan is a great way of charity and there are several ways to do so. You can rely on some reliable organization of orphans and send them sadqah every month. There is no compulsion regarding the amount of charity so there is nothing bad about donating small amount. One other way of sponsoring an orphan is to send extra money on religious occasions. Your children should meet orphans and become their friends as there is no deed bigger than making others happy. Holy prophet PBUH stated that:

“I and the one who looks after an orphan will be like this in Paradise,”

  1. Host Dinner Parties

Guests are the blessing of Allah Almighty and should always be received generously. One of the amazing sayings of holy prophet PBUH about hospitality is narrated below:

Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should be hospitable with his or her guests”

You should always treat your guests with right intention as they arrive only when Allah Almighty is happy with you. Muslims must hold lunches and dinners for their friends and family. Women should involve their entire families in preparation of dinner, cleaning of house and reception. This way, it becomes a sadqah on behalf of whole family. Whoever is fed from your house will side with you in front of Allah Almighty.
