Dangers and Meanings of Cursing

Cursing means the exclusion of goodness or of the mercy of Allah SWT .This can never be the habit of true believer. Holy Prophet PBUH said:

“The believer does not slander, curse, or speak in an obscene or foul manner.”

Cursing a Believer is Gravest Crime

Cursing any believer is considered a biggest crime that a Muslim must never dare to commit. To explain the enormity of this sin, here is one of the Hadith of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H):

“Cursing a believer is like killing him.”

According to the hadith, both cursing and killing are equal in prohibition;killing is graver. So we should always avoid cursing anyone in our life.

Never Curse an Animal or a Mount

People usually take this as something insignificant and they also curse animals as their means of transport. Such people are not aware of the fact that they themselves mix with cursed things in doing so. It was narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was once on a journey on which there was woman as well riding a she-camel. That camel annoyed her and so she cursed it. Holy Prophet PBUH having heard that asked the woman to take off the load from the camel’s back and set it free as it is cursed.

Beware of the Rebounding of the Curse

avoid abusive behaviour

When you curse something that does not deserved to be cursed then the curse rebound and comes back to you even if that cursed thing is even wind. It was narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas AS that once the wind blew away a man’s garment and he cursed the wind.  Holy Prophet PBUH said to that man:

Do not curse the wind because it is commanded [by Allah to blow]. Whoever curses something and it does not deserve the curse, the curse will turn back upon him.”

May Allah Almighty purify our hearts, tongue and bodies from everything that displeases Him and stirs His wrath!!
