– Enter Ihram
First of all, it is highly recommended that you perform ghusl and then you have to enter Ihram and make pure intentions of performing Umrah.Entering ihram means being in a state of sacredness that demands you clear and pure intentions. Ihram is not just a piece of garment, it is a symbolic representation of submitting your will to Allah’s will. For men, Ihram includes two piece of white cloths while for women, ihram is dressing up in lose modest clothing that covers their body.
– Perform Tawaf
Next step after you have entered the state of Ihram is performing Tawaf. Tawaf involves circumambulating seven times around the Ka’aba. This circling around the Ka’aba represents pilgrims’ commitment to Allah’s will and the strengthening of their emaan. Tawaf is done anti-clockwise and is begun at the Hajar-al-Aswad or the black stone.
– Offer Two Rakaat Nawafal Prayers
After completing your seven rounds of Tawaf, you can proceed with offering two rakaat Nawafal prayers in front of the Holy Ka’aba and ask for as many duas and prayers as you can.
– Perform Sa’i
After Tawaf is done, the next step you need to follow is performing the Sa’i. The Sa’i is also a very sacred ritual that holds great symbolic significance and history. The Sa’i is performed by walking seven times between the mounts of Safa and Marwa. The Sa’i ritual reminds us of the time when Hajar ran between Safa and Marwa seven times in order to search water for her son Ismail. It depicts the struggles and hardship she faced and how she got rewarded at the end.
– Halq/Taqsir
The last ritual that you need to perform during your Umrah journey is shaving or trimming your hair for men while cutting a small chunk or piece of your hair for women. After fulfilling this last ritual, your Umrah journey is complete and you can exit the state of Ihram. Moreover, you can also offer two rakaat Nawafal as a ‘Shukrana Prayer’ before leaving.
