SALAAT-A L HAAJAH (The salaat of Need)

The principle concerning matters of worship is tawqeef [i.e., following what is in the Qur’aan and saheeh Sunnah; with no room for individual opinion]. And we cannot say that any act of worship is prescribed unless there is saheeh evidence.

There are no Saheeh reports in Sunnah that points towards permissibly of praying Salaat Al Haajah. So it is better for a Muslim not to pray this prayer since it is not a part of shariah.

IF IT’S NOT PROVEN THROUGH SUNNAH THEN WHY DO WE SO MANY PEOPLE BELIEVING IN THIS SALAAH??

Salaat al Haajah is mentioned in four hadeeths, two of which are fabricated. The third hadeeth is da’eef jiddan (very weak) and the fourth hadeeth is da’eef (weak).

This has been declared and finalized by the standing committee of scholars.

As for those still performing it even after knowing the Islamic perspective on it is negative are merely giving more importance to non-sunnah actions and placing false hopes in thinking that their wishes can be fulfilled by going against the permissible matters.

BUT MANY PEOPLE FOUND IT BENEFICIAL??

HOW CAN ONE BENEFIT FROM IT IF IT AIN’T PRESCRIBED IN ISLAM?

The Sunnah cannot be proven merely from experience, and the acceptance of du’aa’ does not necessarily mean that this was narrated in a sound from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Allaah may answer a du’aa’ even when one does not seek to draw close to Him by means of the Sunnah, for He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy, or the answer may be a kind of test that may lead a person further away from Allaah. The fact that a person tried something and got what he wanted does not prove that which is said about it or narrated concerning it is correct.

THEN IS THERE ANY SPECIAL PRAYER APART FROM THIS FOR FULFILLMENT OF ONE’S WISHES?

If the Muslim is faced with distress, he should pray and make du’aa’ in general (with no restrictions as to a certain number of rak’ahs or a specific du’aa’ that is not proven in sound ahaadeeth, etc.),
because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And seek help in patience and prayer…” [al-Baqarah 2:45].

Also, lean about times when dua’s are answered and make sure you ask at those times some of which are to make du’aa’ to Allaah in the depths of the night and between the adhaan and iqaamah and at the end of every prayer before the tasleem; and on Fridays, for then there are times when du’aa’ is answered; and when breaking one’s fast.

And Allah knows best….
