Quran, The book of enlightenment and guidance

Keywords: Quran, ethical and moral principles

The Holy book Quran is not a book like any other books. It is the eternal speech of Allah, not a created thing. It is the guideline for mankind and its study guides us for life and death and what comes after this life. It requires a more careful study than studying anyone else’s speech. If someone wants to benefit from it, his heart must be heedful and attentive when reading or reciting it. Reading it attentively and carefully with the existence of mind is like as if Allah Himself is speaking you directly. Quran is a book which is addressed directly to human being from Allah Almighty upon the tongue of His Messenger (PBUH).

Allah Almighty says:

“Truly there is a reminder in this for anyone who has a heart, or who listens attentively with presence of mind.”

According to Islam, the discussion and discourses contained in the Quran were firstly conveyed by Allah’s Messenger Jibrail to Muhammad (PBUH) on the direction by Allah. After that Muhammad (PBUH) collected the discourses in the Quran and conveyed to the people.

In simple words, the Holy Quran is a combination of divinely inspired statements and discourses. This book comprises of 300 pages which are divided into 114 Surahs. These Surahs are arranged roughly in order of length except for the popular and short prayers that comprises Surah Al-Fatihah, the starting Surah which is Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Al Imran, Surah Nisa and then the final Surahs in the end that has only 3-6 verses. Reading this Holy Book is a great virtue. There is a Hadith of Prophet (PBUH) that whoever read only one letter of Quran will gain 10 virtues for it and in Ramadan these virtues will increase 70 times. Reading and Reciting it fulfills all Islamic duties of Muslims because reading Quran is important just like other Islamic worships like fast, salah etc.

The moral values of today’s world are rather distorted. These ethical and moral principles, which are the products of selfish passions and the greed of people, cause them to behave rudely, arrogantly and selfishness. People believe that in order to improve their standard of living they have to deceive others. However these are not the values that Allah Almighty has set for the human beings. The Holy book Quran commanded people to be noble, humble, honest, kind, loyal, grown up and receptive. The Quran even explained the way we should talk: The Qur’an even describes the way we should walk: “Turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boast.”
