Questioning on Judgment Day

Questioning on Judgment Day

Death is one of the few irrefutable facts of life. Despite of our age, faith, race or status, we all will die. Meanwhile the certitude of death is universally accepted, but it has been debated throughout history that what happens after the death? Islam enlightens us that one’s life doesn’t end on this earth and that it is followed by everlasting life of the hereafter.  When a Muslim believes that there is also a life after this life which we are surviving then he or she also acknowledges the fact that with the end of time there is also going to be a judgment day where all people will be judged on the basis of their actions which they did in this world and according to those actions or deeds they will be punished or rewarded in the eternal afterlife. There are five basic questions that will be asked from everyone as per the Saying of Muhammad (PBUH):

“The son of Adam will not pass away from Allah until he is asked about five things: how he lived his life, and how he utilized his youth, with what means did he earn his wealth, how did he spend his wealth, and what did he do with his knowledge.

This Hadith describes the situation of every human being on Judgment day, the day of Final Verdict by Allah Almighty. Even if the human being has passed in answering the other queries, be these queries are social or religious, he or she will not be able to enter heaven (Jannah) unless he/she succeeds in providing acceptable replies to these five questions which are:

  1. How one lived its life on Earth?
  2. How one spent its wealth?
  3. How one utilized its youth?
  4. How one earned its wealth?
  5. What one did with its knowledge?

We will be asked on the Dooms day about all of the favors and rewards that Allah Almighty gave us in this life. Some of these favors or blessings may include our wealth, our home, our good health, our food & drink etc. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Book Quran that:

“Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (You indulged in, in this world.”

The Messenger of Allah Prophet (PBUH) explained the questioning in a speech that:  “Allah (S.W.T.) will meet a person and ask him: “O person, Wasn’t I generous with you, and made you with a spouse, and made the horses and camels at your disposal?  The Servant of God will reply “Yes” Allah Almighty will then ask: “Did you think that you will meet me?” He will reply “No”. Then Allah will say that “I will forget you like you forgot me in the world”

Allah Almighty will then ask the same questions which He asked from first person from another person and that person’s replies will also be same. Then Allah Almighty will meet the third person and will ask the same questions and that person’s reply will be “O Lord I believed in you, in your books, and in your messengers. I prayed, I fasted, and I gave charity.” And he will praise Allah as much as he can. Allah (S.W.T.) will say: “Hold on to your words, now we will bring the witnesses. The person will ask himself “Who will testify against me?” Then that person’s mouth will be sealed, and his thighs, flesh and bones will be asked to speak. They will speak about his bad deeds. He will know that he has no excuse. That is the hypocrite Allah (S.W.T.) will be furious with!”
