Importance of Judgment Day in Islam

As justice is very important and main concern of Islam it is compulsory that one should get justice in this world and the world hereafter. It sounds wise and natural that one day a person will receive back whatever good or bad he does. The Day of Judgment in the Holy Book Quran has also been called as the Dooms Day, the Day of Reckoning, the Day of Accountability or the Day of Resurrection. Everyone’s account of deeds is being maintained. The two angels are maintaining the record of every word and movement according to Islamic concept. The Surat Al-Jumu`ah in Quran announces:

“The death from which you flee will truly overtake you; then will you be sent back to the knower of the things secret and open; and He will tell you (the truth) of the things you did.”(62:8)

Everyone’s record is being maintained during their life period and that’s an accurate record. The Day of Judgment is the day of Justice and on which everyone will get the final verdict of themselves from Allah Almighty. Nobody will be mistreated and wronged on this day. A person’s limbs will be his witness and he will be shown his recorded film. Everyone will be rewarded or punished according to his actions which he did in this world. There is a saying from Surah Al-Isra which says:

“Everyman’s fate we have fastened on his own neck.  On the Day of Judgment we shall bring out for him a scroll, which he will see spread open.  Read thine record sufficient is thy soul this day to make out an account against thee”

As faulty and imperfect beings, we often make mistakes and do any wrong action. Although Allah does not expect perfection from us, He calls on us to make great efforts to worship Him and to live morally right. Out of His mercy, He forgives whom He wills in the hereafter. All Almighty promises us in the Quran:

“And those who believe and do righteous deeds – We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do”

Muslims seeks preservation or deliverance from any harm in the hereafter by living a life according to Allah and Sunnah in this world. The terror or fear of accountability in the next world, along with the hope in the promise of Allah Almighty’s ultimate justice, lead them to live their present life by completely doing the worship of Allah which is true purpose of human existence. In this way, they achieve in this short-term life for eternal joy.
