Imam Al-Mahdi A.s, A Short Biography

Biography Of Imam Mahdi A.S

Imam Al-Mahdi A.s, the awaited savior and leader, the descendant of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)

was born in the city of Samarra on 15th Shaban 255 A.H. The term “MAHDI” means “The Guided one”.

He is the last in the line of twelve Imams, the son of Eleventh Imam Hasan al-Askari (AS) and Nargis

Khatoon. Imam Hasan died when Mahdi was only 5 years old. He led the funeral prayer of his father in

the presence of a mass of Muslims, including Al-Mu’tamid, the Abbasid caliph of that time, who

followed the young boy beyond any doubt. Afterwards Mahdi went into his house and was nowhere to be

found. (A secret that Allah did not want to reveal).

Being a Muslim it is our belief that Imam Mahdi is alive but in occultation. He will come forth at the age

of forty with the name of Muhammad. His father’s name will be Abdullah and mother’s name will be

Aamina. His likeness and character will be similar to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Imam Mahdi (A.S) has

the holy personality created by Allah Almighty to reform the human society and bring justice & equity on

this land. He would fill the earth with righteousness and evenness, and help the deprived ones. He would

rule for 7 years and will spread the word of Allah all around the world.

Hazrat Ali (R.A.) narrates that Prophet (PBUH) said, “Even if only a day remains for Qiyamah to come,

yet Allah will surely send a man from my family who will fill this world with such justice and fairness,

just as it initially was filled with oppression.” (Abu Dawood).

He belongs to a family, which the Allah Almighty has esteemed and prevented from all kinds of

uncleanness and blessed with purity. Imam Al-Mahdi, the Awaited one accomplishes the same purpose

that the great Messengers of the Lord had performed. On this ground, he would exterminate injustice and

prejudice and establish peace and brotherhood among the people. The birth, concealment and

reappearance of Imam Al-Mahdi is similar to the birth of Hazrat Moosa (A.S). In case of Hazrat Moosa

(A.S) the maleficent Pharaoh projected his murder as it would sabotage his power and kingdom. Whereas

the oppressive Abbaside were in search of Imam Al-Mahdi to murder him as soon as he was born.

The Almighty Allah has always bestowed His grace upon His People and this shall never stop. He is

omnipotent and omnipresent. He created us in the best of forms and made us superior among all the

creatures. He sent the Prophets for guidance when the humanity was in its darkest period. He says:

“And you were on the brink of a pit of fire, then He saved you from it.”

( Surah Aale-Imran 3:103)
