What Should We Eat For Iftaar in Ramadan?

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Muslims all over the world observe fasts and celebrate this precious month. One of the most basic ideas behind observing fast is to instill patience and a sense of self restraint in our self.

Muslim people who observe fast eat before sunrise and then refrain from drinking and eating anything throughout the day. In the evening after sunset, Muslims break their fasts with the meal known as Iftaar. It is a meal for which we wait throughout day. Traditionally, we are supposed to break our fast with dates along with milk, juice or water. It is believed that Holy Prophet PBUH used to eat three dates to break His fast.

Iftaar meals and Ramadan dinners are elaborate and exquisite. Consuming delicious rice dish, rich meaty dishes and those yummy desserts after almost 15 hours of abstaining from food sometimes take a toll on our digestive system and cause stomach problems. Here are these health tips that you must follow to avoid stomach bloating problem:

Do not Mix Fruits With Your Meals

Try to break your fast with fruits or take them after you are done with your meals. Fruits when combined with proteins, fats and minerals present in other food can lead to stomach problem and hinder digestion.

Do not Combine Cheese With Seafood, Nuts and Other Meat

Our body is programmed to digest only one type of protein at a time. Consuming proteins more than once can create problems in our digestive system.

Do Not Combine Citrus Food With Milk Based Foods

Starch and protein is also not a great idea as acidic acid curdles the milk which can cause problems in our stomach. In case you are planning to fill your stomach with lots of lean meat then try to balance it with some fresh vegetables.

Take it Easy

Never try to be in a hurry to finish your food. When our body receives too much of food all of a sudden after being deprived of it for whole day, it may lead to gastric problems and indigestion.

Break your fast with yogurt, fruits, lot of cooling fluids such as smoothies or sherbets and then take your main course. This will give our stomach a little bit time to process and will ensure proper functioning of it.Bottom of Form
