7 Easy Ways to Remind Young Muslims about Ramadan

Ramadan is a standard and young children are expected to observe it especially those who have attended any Islamic school or go to institutions in which they teach Islamic practices and customs. Howbeit, for some youth, this blessed month is not familiar. They might hear about Ramadan from the news or read it from books but since their homes are not as observant of Ramadan, they too become unaware.

Never assume that just because someone is not practicing Islam that they are doing it on purpose. Many times, they do not know about it. Here are some ways we as Muslim individuals and as communities can provide reminders to these youngsters about Ramadan:

1. If your kids attend Sunday school, then be sure to explain them the month of Ramadan thoroughly and try to indulge them in any relevant activities.

2. If your kids attend public school then teach them how to explain this blessed month to their non-Muslim friends and invite those non-practicing Muslim friends for Iftaar at your place.

3. If you come to know that someone is Muslim or in case someone says Salam to you in any Mall, engage in small talk with them and try to bring up a topic of fasting and Ramadan. Doing this might inspire them to ask more questions about this holy month.

4. In case you have any Muslim youngster in your neighborhood then go to their homes to share traditional iftaar food items.

5. Social media is one of the most efficient and fastest ways today to create awareness about any topic. Post articles related to Ramadan and update status about this holy month’s preparations. You never know which update or post can inspire them.

6. Hold special Ramadan activities throughout the Ramadan for Muslim Student’s Associations and publicize the events before this blessed month begins through flyers, social media etc.

7. Contact local middle schools or high schools and inform them that you would welcome any Muslim volunteers to come and help during weekend Iftars.
